The incident occurred on November 9 in Olszyna. – A report about the object that had been found reached the duty officer at the Lubań police headquarters at around 9:30 a.m. Officers from the Lubań unit arrived at the scene and, after examining it, confirmed that it was most likely a mortar shell – reports asp. szt. Justyna Bujakiewicz-Rodzeń, press officer of the District Police Headquarters in Lubań.

And she adds:

Bomb-disposal specialists, the emergency power service and the gas emergency service were alerted. The police, together with firefighters, then established a safe zone and began evacuating all residents within a 200-meter radius. The street adjoining the find was also closed, and the police designated detours.

More than 500 people were evacuated in total. At around 2:00 p.m., the dangerous find was taken away by officers from the Bolesławiec Bomb Disposal Patrol of the 23rd Silesian Artillery Regiment.

The police appeal:

If unexploded ordnance is found, the police must be notified immediately. It must not be touched or moved elsewhere. It is also important to secure the site of the find until the relevant services arrive and prevent other people—unaware of the danger—from putting themselves at risk.
