To publicize the matter, our Reader contacted us. In an email to the editorial office, they wrote: “For a long time, we have been observing various situations in our city that may prompt us to consider what we are actually paying for and where our money is going. This time, I am presenting a complete lack of thought while mowing a lawn. Yes—a lawn. If anything, even mowing a lawn can be botched. The work is done for quantity, not quality, because why would people living in a block of flats need a nice lawn outside their window? Let only the owners of detached houses have it.” They added: “I bet that the housing cooperative, as the administrator of the area, does not even monitor the work carried out by the external company, and even if it does, they certainly will not raise any objections. These photographs are only a small indication of how the lawns in our city are mowed, ploughed up and driven over by heavy equipment. And so for another 50 years—or longer—this country will continue to be plagued by shoddy workmanship”.

We contacted the deputy head of Spółdzielnia Mieszkaniowa „Bolesławianka”, Beata Ślęzak, about the matter. Here is the response we received by email:

Spółdzielnia Mieszkaniowa „Bolesławianka” kindly informs us that the way the areas shown in photographs no. 1 and no. 2 are presented, due to the absence of any distinctive features (i.e. a building façade, a sign bearing the street name, etc.), does not clearly indicate that these are areas managed by the Cooperative. [...]

However, regardless of whose areas are shown in photographs no. 1 and 2, to prevent similar damage to the grounds in the future, the Cooperative sent a letter to ZIELEŃ-PLAN, a company providing services for the Cooperative, demanding that green areas with uneven surfaces or pavements that could be damaged by tractors equipped with mechanical mowers be mowed using lighter equipment or handheld brush cutters.

How many of our Readers have noticed this type of shoddy work? We invite you to join the discussion.
