On Saturday, 12 June, a Taekwondo WTF competition organized by Taekwondo Union Thüringen e.V. was held in the German town of Gera. Five competitors representing UKS Ilyo Bolesławiec took part in the tournament: Paulina Stojanowska, Klaudia Faltyn, Adam Filipek, Mateusz Boczarski and Wiktor Cawricz. All of them finished in medal positions.
Adam Filipek (in the up-to-73 kg category) and Mateusz Boczarski (up to 41 kg) won gold medals. Although the organizers moved Adam to a higher weight category, he defeated a German competitor 10:8 in the final. Mateusz won his final bout by knockout in the first round (10:1).
Wiktor Cawricz (up to 45 kg) made a successful debut at an international competition, winning a silver medal. He performed very well in the bout for a place in the final, winning 11:4. Unfortunately, his opponent was too strong in the final.
Paulina Stojanowska (up to 41 kg) and Klaudia Faltyn (up to 37 kg) won bronze medals. Klaudia lost 1:5 to her opponent in the semifinal. The same happened to Paulina Stojanowska, whose progress to the final was hindered by a leg injury. Despite this, Paulina took part in the bout for the bronze medal and won (7:1), knocking out her opponent with a powerful kick in the first minute of the bout.
Around 200 competitors from Germany, Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary and Austria took part in the entire competition. In the overall standings, Ilyo finished 10th.
