According to GW, Bolesławiec has slightly more than 23% of people aged 65 or over. Similar results were also recorded in: Lubin and Nowa Ruda. Who ranks ahead of us? By a small margin, Wałbrzych and Świdnica, as well as Lubań (23.7%). In sixth place was Zgorzelec with 24.2%, while fourth place went to Jelenia Góra with almost 25% senior residents. The top three are spa towns: Szczawno Zdrój – third place (25.1%), Polanica Zdrój – second place (27%), and in first place Duszniki Zdrój (27.7%).

The ranking gives only percentages and says nothing about the value of people aged 65 and over or the potential they represent. Age on a birth certificate does not determine how active people are or how much they contribute to the city. Bolesławiec has very active and productive seniors.

The University of the Third Age, as well as associations and organizations created by and for seniors, are thriving in our city. Senior men and women organize numerous events and interesting meetings, take care of preserving their ancestors’ heritage, and cherish the historical memory associated with Bolesławiec and its residents. They also look after their physical and mental health, promote a healthy lifestyle, encourage intellectual development, pursue their passions, and present the results of their activities at vernissages and exhibitions. The image of a retired person is that of an intellectually and physically fulfilled woman who enthusiastically pursues her hobbies, takes an interest in the city’s cultural life, or creates it herself.
