– In the 21st century, access to information has become so easy and widespread that memorizing large numbers of facts and statistical data is increasingly less useful and should not be the main goal of education. Much more important is mastering and developing specific skills, as well as independently acquiring new knowledge by asking the right questions, making observations, conducting experiments and drawing conclusions. Developing these skills is one of the main tasks of every school – says Edyta Górczak, principal of Primary School No. 5 in Bolesławiec.

She adds:

For several years, our school’s teachers have been carrying out international projects based on STEM – Happy Kids With Steam, Steamaker, Robomaker, Steamist, Imagine The Code, Encoded for fun, Nature Friendly Kids, Journey to the world of science.

And adds:

All of them were created under the watchful eye of teachers – Dorota Stanałowska, Agnieszka Bednarska, Barbara Dolecka and Danuta Dereszyńska. In June this year, the STEAMIST project was recognized as the best eTwinning project in our country.

STEM is an acronym for the English words: Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematic. (That is: science, technology, engineering and mathematics). More about this initiative can be found, among other places, on stem.org.pl.
