As reported by the Jelenia Góra Regional Prosecutor’s Office:
On 19 August 2022, the man transported hazardous waste from Opole to Bolesławiec (this included solvents, paints and varnishes stored in 24 containers, each with a capacity of 1,000 litres).
Investigators add: – Moreover, between 5 and 12 September 2022, the suspect stored hazardous waste on his property in Bolesławiec.
Rafał J. was detained on 12 September 2022. – At that time, officers of the Bolesławiec County Police Headquarters were inspecting and searching his property – reports prosecutor Tomasz Czułowski, press spokesman for the Jelenia Góra Regional Prosecutor’s Office. – Initially, Rafał J. informed the police officers by telephone that he was in another city. However, during the inspection of the property, a policewoman noticed him hiding under one of the vehicles.
After being brought to the Bolesławiec District Prosecutor’s Office, Rafał J. was charged with two offences under Article 183 § 1 of the Penal Code. The suspect did not admit to committing them and refused to give explanations.
Prosecutor T. Czułowski: – The prosecutor then successfully applied for his temporary detention. Rafał J. faces a prison sentence of between 1 and 10 years for the offences committed. The investigation is being conducted by the Bolesławiec District Prosecutor’s Office and the Bolesławiec County Police Headquarters.

This is not the first case in which the 49-year-old Bolesławiec resident has been suspected of environmental offences. On 9 September 2022, the Bolesławiec District Court issued a conviction against him for transporting and storing hazardous waste in Bolesławiec between October 2020 and January 2021. The court sentenced him to one year in prison, suspended for two years, and ordered him to hand over the waste located on his property to an entity authorised to dispose of it properly. The ruling is not final.
