Two items of unexploded ordnance dating from World War II were found on Thursday (September 15) during construction work on one of the properties on Marcinkowskiego Street in Bolesławiec. Police officers are currently guarding the property.

Fire service units from Bolesławiec and Bolesławiec County are being sent to the site. Firefighters will help secure the area where bomb-disposal specialists from the Bomb Disposal Patrol of the 23rd Silesian Artillery Regiment in Bolesławiec will operate. In total, the evacuation covers 19 streets and approximately 3,000 residents.

Due to the discovery of unexploded ordnance, residents of nearby homes within a 300-meter radius of the discovery site must be evacuated. On September 16, 2022, the Mayor orders the evacuation of all persons staying in the city of Bolesławiec in properties located on the following streets:

  2. aleja Wojska Polskiego, numbers 3 to 26
  3. Emilii Plater, numbers 1 to 13
  4. Słoneczna
  5. Okrzei
  6. Saperska, numbers 4, 6, 8, 10, 21, 23
  7. Konopnickiej, numbers 1, 1a, 1b, 2b, 2c, 2d
  8. Krótka
  9. Zaułek
  10. Łasicka, numbers 2 to 32
  11. Plac Pokoju
  12. Kasztanowa, numbers 1, 3, 5, 7, 10, 12, 14, 16
  13. Kilińskiego, numbers 1a, 1b, 1c, 2a, 2b, 3a, 3b, 3c, 3d, 9a, 9b, 9c, 10a, 10b
  14. Starzyńskiego, numbers 1 to 23a

The evacuation will take place on Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The removal of the unexploded ordnance will begin at 12:30 p.m. and continue until further notice.

For the duration of the evacuation, rooms at Primary School No. 4 on Bielska Street have been prepared, where people can take shelter. Special MZK buses will be provided for this purpose. People wishing to use the transport should report to the bus stops at:

  • ul. Franciszka Kleeberga,
  • aleja Wojska Polskiego,
  • ul. Łasicka – church,
  • ul. Zygmunta Augusta (parking lot of the former Police headquarters)

Bus departures: 10:00, 10:30, 11:00, 11:30, 12:00.

(…) From 12:30 p.m.:

  • vehicle traffic in the danger zone will be halted until further notice,
  • some bus services in the city will be suspended until further notice.

The Municipal Office will announce the end of the evacuation via SMS, information on the municipal office website, and voice announcements.
