– Several months ago, we reported on the discovery of waste illegally dumped in Trzebień. The waste, dumped across approximately 84 hectares where Soviet troops were stationed years ago, consists mainly of used vehicles, so-called wrecks, as well as parts from the illegal dismantling of vehicles, cables and rubber waste in the form of tyres (combustible waste) – reports Beata Merenda, spokesperson for the Regional Environmental Protection Inspectorate in Wrocław.

Police officers, firefighters, forestry district employees, bomb disposal experts and representatives of the Jelenia Góra County Office took part in the WIOŚ operation.

The spokesperson adds:

The prosecutor’s office is handling the case, and we notified it in connection with an incident involving the handling of waste in breach of legal regulations, which could have posed a threat to human life or health or resulted in a reduction in the quality of water, air or the land surface, or the destruction of plant or animal life.

The clean-up of the site is divided into stages. B. Merenda: – The first stage of removing waste from a location not intended for this purpose became possible after receiving information from the prosecutor that the indicated waste was no longer subject to further investigative or forensic activities.

Why are the services cleaning up this area?

As WIOŚ explains, the site is being cleaned up in order to:

  • restore it to its proper condition,
  • eliminate the threat to the environment
  • restore its natural qualities.

The work lasted several days. Approximately 350 tonnes of waste were removed. The waste was removed by specialist companies and transferred for disposal.

We will return to this topic.
