The incident took place on Wednesday, July 13. Volunteers from Bezpieczna Przystań:
We received an inquiry asking whether we would take… fish into our care!
And they explain:
As it turned out, the fish—mostly tench and several goldfish—had been released into the city fountain in Nowogrodziec.
The volunteers comment:
We do not know what motivated the perpetrator, but it did not turn out well for the fish. Officials denied that this was an aesthetic and image-enhancing fountain-stocking initiative.
Someone simply put them there. Unfortunately for the fish, the conditions in the fountain were downright toxic for them. Sadly, many did not survive the move.
And they appeal: – We are looking for witnesses to the incident. It is probably not difficult to spot someone with a bucket by the fountain… The surveillance footage is also being checked.
What happened to the fish?
The aquatic creatures were caught. Bezpieczna Przystań: – The tench were taken to a body of water in the forest. The goldfish went to a garden pond. Sadly, many of the tench did not survive. One goldfish was also found that morning “swimming” belly-up.
