The incident occurred on Wednesday at approximately 9:45 p.m. Before entering the station from the direction of Zgorzelec, a man was struck by a train.
Witness accounts are dramatic. They heard the train’s prolonged signal; then one person thought that the locomotive was pulling a large sack. After a moment, it turned out to be a human body.
The drivers operating the PKP Cargo freight locomotive saw a man sitting at the edge of the platform. They began honking and slowing down. And when they were approaching the man, he threw himself under the train.
“The thirteenth was always a good day for me,” said one of the drivers, a man just before retirement. “And today, something like this. He was young, around thirty; we saw him sitting at the edge of the tracks. We started braking, but the locomotive kept moving, albeit at a lower speed. We honked...”
The locomotive under which the man jumped was operated by two drivers. One was just before retirement, while the other was learning the route.
Train traffic at the station was not suspended. Trains will depart only from the second platform, but all of them will be allowed through.
The man who died was 31 years old and lived in Lwówek County.
