Since 1 December 2021, on the toll sections of the A2 and A4 motorways managed by GDDKiA, the Manual Toll Collection System has not operated, and e-TOLL is the only system for paying the journey fee. KAS: – One payment method for users of vehicles and vehicle combinations with a maximum permissible gross weight of up to 3.5 tonnes, as well as motorcycles, is the motorway e-ticket. Purchasing it does not require registration with e-TOLL or the transfer of geolocation data to the system.

Where can you buy a motorway e-ticket?

There are two ways to distribute motorway e-tickets: electronically or in person. In both cases, the minimum amount of data required solely to calculate the motorway journey fee must be provided:

  • the vehicle registration number,
  • the date and time when the motorway journey begins,
  • the planned route.

Motorway e-tickets are distributed:

  • in the e-TOLL PL BILET app prepared by the National Revenue Administration and the Ministry of Finance. It can be downloaded free of charge from Google Play and the App Store. It is available in nine language versions (PL, EN, DE, RU, UA, BY, SK, CZ, LT) and allows users to:
  • in partner apps with which the head of KAS has concluded partnership agreements: Autopay, mPay, SkyCash, SPARK, IKO PKO BP, ORLEN PAY and mFlota ORLEN Vitay;
  • in the online shop at https://www.etoll.gov.pl/lekkie/e-bilet-autostradowy/e-bilet/;
  • at 1,372 PKN ORLEN fuel stations;
  • at 26 LOTOS fuel stations.

When should you buy a motorway e-ticket?

KAS: – A motorway e-ticket must be purchased before starting a journey on a toll motorway section. It can be purchased up to 60 days in advance. A motorway e-ticket is valid for 48 hours from the declared date and time of the start of the journey, and an unused ticket can be returned using the same method by which it was purchased. A ticket can be returned only before the declared date and time of the start of the journey.

What should you do if you are on a toll section without a ticket?

Officials:

If a driver has entered a toll section and realised that they do not have a valid ticket, they should continue driving. Stopping at the motorway entrance to buy a motorway e-ticket may create a road safety hazard. The journey should be paid for as soon as possible, for example with the help of a passenger. If the driver decides to stop during the journey for this purpose, they should do so safely, in a designated place. A motorway e-ticket can then be purchased in the e-TOLL PL BILET app or in partner apps. It can also be purchased at the nearest fuel station of an e-TOLL partner.

KAS warns: – During the journey, the vehicle may nevertheless be subject to a mobile inspection or a road check, and for travelling on a toll section without paying the journey fee, the driver will be fined in the form of a penalty notice.

What if the driver does not buy a ticket for the toll section and is not inspected?

Agnieszka Rzeźnicka-Gniadek, spokesperson for the Lower Silesian KAS: – If a driver did not purchase the missing motorway e-ticket during the journey and was not fined as a result of a road check, they may purchase a motorway e-ticket for the section of motorway already travelled. This purchase is possible in the e-TOLL PL BILET app, partner apps or at e-TOLL partner fuel stations within three days of the date and time when the journey ended.

They add: – When purchasing an additional motorway e-ticket, both during and after the journey, the date and time corresponding to the moment of entering the toll motorway section must be entered as the beginning of the ticket’s validity period.

Are there other ways to pay for the journey?

Users of light vehicles can also pay for motorway journeys using the e-TOLL PL app, which is different from e-TOLL PL BILET. The e-TOLL PL app is used by both heavy-vehicle and passenger-car users. It can be downloaded free of charge from Google Play and the App Store. To use the e-TOLL PL app, registration in the e-TOLL system at etoll.gov.pl is required. The app transmits geolocation data, so there is no need to declare the time or route of the planned journey in advance. Fees are calculated using the vehicle’s geolocation data, so the app must remain switched on throughout the journey.

Drivers of light vehicles can also pay for motorway journeys using OBU and ZSL on-board devices installed in vehicles, which are authorised for the e-TOLL system and transmit the vehicle’s GPS data to that system.
