On 11 May 2022, firefighters received a call about an elderly man who had suddenly lost consciousness on a PKS bus. The bus driver was the first to help him.
The bus was pulling away when a crisis began inside. An elderly man boarded the bus and appeared to be in perfectly good health. He started talking to a female passenger. The driver noticed that his passenger had fallen from his seat.
“I was about to pull the bus away from the stop when I noticed the guy suddenly collapse, fall over and fall from his seat,” said PKS Bolesławiec driver Marian Jedynak. “I told them to lay him on his back and started performing cardiac massage,” the driver added.
This quick response saved the man’s life. The driver had completed a first-aid course, although it is not mandatory for drivers.
“We are constantly working to improve passenger safety, which is why a first-aid course was held at our company,” said PKS Bolesławiec president Łukasz Jaźwiec.- “Although drivers are not required to hold first-aid training qualifications, at our company this is an additional element, because such a course improves passenger safety,” the president added.
