– Overnight, the search operation ended for the 35-year-old man who, on June 23, violently assaulted police officers. The incident occurred during an attempt to arrest him in one of the residential buildings in the Nowogrodziec municipality, in Bolesławiec County. The man was due to serve a prison sentence of several years, including for thefts and burglaries he had previously committed, and clearly wanted to avoid going to prison. As soon as he noticed the officers, he attacked them. He was very aggressive, kicking and hitting them, and also behaved in an extremely irrational manner. He completely ignored the officers’ commands. In order to arrest him, direct coercive measures were used, including restraining holds, and a struggle ensued. The attacker then wrested a service firearm from one of the officers and one shot was fired. No one was injured, but the man fled the scene of the intervention – this is how the case is described by Anna Kublik-Rościszewska from the Bolesławiec police.

I was standing by the kitchen door and some guy comes in with a garbage bag and says “municipal office, whose garbage is this?” and I said I don’t give a f**k, he comes up to me, grabs me by the neck, takes me to the ground and says “police” and calls the other one. The other guy rushes in and starts beating me like a punching bag. I didn’t know what to do, they started spraying me with gas. I took the first gun and threw it into the middle of the hallway. Only so that one of them would let go, and it worked. Then the other one started choking me and wouldn’t let go. I dropped my phone to try to free myself from the hold. He started smashing my head against the wall. I saw the gun, took it out of the holster, disengaged the safety, loaded it and fired a shot toward the stairs, where no one was. The other one, who was farther away, seeing what was happening, put his gun on the floor. I held it to my head and said, “You won’t leave prison now just because I shoot myself.” I shouted, “Tina, Tina, tell Marta that I love her very much,” and it worked. He let me go, and as I was backing away from the R....s, I threw the gun into the neighboring garden and escaped
In addition to Krzysztof S., two other people suspected of helping the wanted man hide were arrested, as was a resident of Lwówek County who had hidden the fugitive.
Further activities involving the detainees are currently being carried out by the police and the District Prosecutor’s Office in Bolesławiec.
