Exhumation work was carried out on Wednesday, 18 May, on the border between Bożejowice and Otok. The object of the search was the so-called “grave of the unknown soldier.” As we read on the Facebook profile of the Pomost Historical and Archaeological Research Workshop:
For many years, this place was cared for by local residents. A birch cross stood on the mound, with a German helmet hanging on it for several post-war years. The entire site was surrounded by a small wooden fence. Only recently, while wild vegetation was being removed beneath a nearby power line, did the remains of the grave cease to be visible.
At the location indicated by witnesses, we discovered the burial of a German soldier. An intact identification tag was found with his remains. Its very poor state of preservation, however, will make identification impossible.

Pomost Historical and Archaeological Research Workshop:
We appeal to all people of goodwill to provide information about the burial sites of German and Polish soldiers, as well as Wielkopolska Insurgents, in the following voivodeships: Greater Poland, Lower Silesian, Lubusz, West Pomeranian, Opole and Kuyavian-Pomeranian.
Every piece of information is very valuable to us, and we will carefully verify each one. We also inform you that anyone reporting such a site bears no legal, financial or moral responsibility. Let us help build “Polish-German reconciliation.”
