Lower Silesia, the hub of Polish sport

The Lower Silesian Voivodeship has an impressive base of sports facilities unlike any other region in Poland. Few people realize that the number of football teams and truly interesting facilities in this region is well above average. It is enough to mention that we can find two teams from the Ekstraklasa and two from the 1st League whose facilities are located in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship. Few voivodeships can boast such successful sports projects.

Ranking of football stadiums in Lower Silesia

There are voivodeships in Poland that suffer from a lack of a sufficient number of sporting events. Lower Silesia certainly does not belong to this group. A huge number of events take place here every week. The existing stadiums are also among the best in the country. What is the reason for this situation, and why here in particular? One possible answer is the population density, which is among the highest in Poland. Euro 2012 also played a major role, leading to the construction of Śląsk Wrocław's stadium, which can certainly be included in a ranking containing the world's most beautiful stadiums. Let us look at the most beautiful football facilities in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship.

Śląsk Wrocław – Municipal Stadium in Wrocław

The stadium is owned by the municipal company Wrocław 2012; the year is not accidental, as the facility owes its existence to Euro 2012, which was held in Poland and Ukraine. The stadium is located at 1 Śląska Street, and its maximum capacity is 45,105 seats. The official opening took place in 2011, and the inaugural event was the boxing bout between Tomasz Adamek and Witalij Kliczko. Śląsk Wrocław played its first match here against Lechia Gdańsk, with the hosts securing a modest 1–0 victory. It is worth mentioning that Śląsk Wrocław previously played its matches at the stadium at 62 Oporowska Street; today, this facility belongs to the first-team and youth-team training centre.

Zagłębie Lubin – Zagłębie Stadium

Another facility belonging to the wave of stadiums built shortly before the European Championships held in our country. The facility was completed in its current form in 2009. The stadium has a capacity of 16,086, and construction cost approximately 130 million złoty. Zagłębie is owned by a state-owned company, and the KGHM corporation, its majority shareholder, financed the stadium construction project. The stadium is a typical football-focused facility, meaning that the first seats are only 5 metres from the pitch.

Miedź Legnica – White Eagle Stadium in Legnica

Miedź Stadium does not belong to the highest class of facilities, unlike the first two entries in our ranking. Nevertheless, it can accommodate more than 6,000 people. The stadium was modernized in 2017.

Chrobry Głogów – Municipal Stadium in Głogów

The stadium in Głogów is a historic facility dating back to 1948. It is by far the smallest facility in today's ranking, accommodating only 2,817 people. Due to its poor structural condition, the facility underwent a major renovation in 2010.

Summary

The football facilities mentioned are just a few of those located in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship. In practice, there are many more clubs that do not, however, have facilities as spectacular as Śląsk Wrocław's stadium. Success can nevertheless achieve a great deal, and there is a strong possibility that when teams currently playing in the lower leagues earn promotion, they may receive equally spectacular facilities in which to play their matches.
