To the Złotoryja County Police Headquarters came a 67-year-old resident of the town, who reported losing his savings. He suspected that he had fallen victim to fraudsters.

How did it happen?

Last year, the man became interested in the possibility of investing in cryptocurrencies. At that time, he was also contacted by phone by a person claiming to be an employee of a company “supporting” investment in the virtual currency market. At that person’s urging, the 67-year-old invested on the exchange.

After some time, he heard good news: he had earned a substantial amount of money. However, in order to withdraw it, he had to file a PIT tax return including the profit made from sold currencies. The Złotoryja resident paid the calculated tax amount into… an account indicated by the fraudsters.

When he did not receive the funds back for several weeks, he realized that he might have been defrauded. Unfortunately, he lost both the money he had invested and the money he had transferred to the fraudsters. In total: more than PLN 50,000.

Police:

In view of the example above, we warn and appeal for common sense when carrying out this type of transaction. Fraudsters look for people who are interested in a given topic and rob their victims without any scruples. Therefore, we warn and appeal: if a person contacts you and tells you about:

  • the possibility of making quick and high profits through investment in cryptocurrencies;
  • the need to install an application (on a computer or phone) that allows the automation of operations involving the purchase and sale of cryptocurrency;
  • the fact that investment support and assistance with using the application are provided by “analysts” who contact you by phone and help you use the application

think for a moment! Use common sense and be very careful! Do not give in to pressure, do not let apparently attractive offers tempt you, and do not act on the spur of the moment! It could be fraud!
