The incident occurred in Czaple, in the Pielgrzymka municipality. Officers from the road traffic department of the District Police Headquarters in Złotoryja, while patrolling local roads, noticed a passenger car with its windshield protruding above the vehicle’s roof. They decided to stop the car for an inspection and check its technical condition.
When they came closer, they noticed that the windshield did not fit the vehicle at all. It had been taken from another car. It partly protruded above the roof and was secured in those places with pieces of tape. Elsewhere, it was too narrow, and the gaps had been filled with expanding foam. A 35-year-old woman from Lwówek County was behind the wheel.
The lack of a technical inspection and the vehicle’s defects resulted in the police seizing its registration certificate. During further proceedings, it turned out that this was only the beginning of the driver’s problems. A check of her details in police systems showed that she did not have a driving licence. Her driving privileges had been revoked by a decision of the county governor.
In addition, she was subject to a court-imposed driving ban, and a drug test showed that she was under the influence of drugs. The woman was detained. Blood was taken from her for detailed testing to determine whether she had driven under the influence of drugs.
The 35-year-old has already been taken to prison, where she will serve a substitute custodial sentence. Driving despite a court-imposed driving ban and contrary to a decision revoking her driving privileges is punishable by up to five years in prison.
Police remind drivers that a vehicle’s technical condition is just as important as observing speed limits and complying with other regulations.
Cars with bald tyres, smashed headlights, cracked windows, defective braking or exhaust systems, improper lighting, or vehicle components attached with adhesive tape… These are just a few examples of serious negligence on the part of car owners.
Let us remember that every driver is obliged to comply with traffic regulations, including ensuring that their vehicle is in a technical condition that does not endanger road safety.
