On the 70th anniversary of the Katyń massacre, a ceremony was held at Municipal Lower Secondary School No. 2 in Bolesławiec, during which two memory oaks were planted. One of them commemorates Polish police constable Franciszek Zadruga, murdered in Tver. The constable’s daughter, Helena Kowal, presented his life story.

The second oak is intended to commemorate Lech Kaczyński, President of the Republic of Poland, as well as the remaining victims of the air disaster in Smolensk.

The ceremony was attended, among others, by representatives of the Bolesławiec branch of the Siberians’ Association, local government officials and lower secondary school students, for whom it was both a history lesson and a lesson in patriotism.
