Recently, Minister Adam Niedzielski, head of the Ministry of Health in Mateusz Morawiecki’s government, announced that the coronavirus pandemic had effectively come to an end. Most restrictions were then lifted. Now—because it is already 1 April—the National Health Fund will no longer reimburse either PCR tests or antigen tests.

What does this mean?

From April, anyone who wants to check whether they have been infected with the SARS-CoV-2 virus will effectively have to pay for it.

According to Kamil Barczyk, head of the Healthcare Team in Bolesławiec, this will significantly reduce the number of tests performed, because until now the vast majority—more than 90 percent—were carried out on a non-commercial basis.

This may mean that data on the number of infections, published daily by the service of the Republic of Poland, will be—putting it mildly—far from accurate.

What about the ZOZ swab collection points?

For now, the points will operate normally; nevertheless, the management of the county hospital in Bolesławiec is continuously analyzing the level of demand for swab tests in the region.

How much will a PCR test cost now?

PLN 200.
