The Długa Gallery is hosting an exhibition of diploma works by students of the ceramic sculpture studio at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow. The exhibition was opened by Professor Czesław Dźwigaj (who has run the studio since 1991) and lecturer Marita Benke-Gajda.

Bolesławiec deserves every good ceramic sculpture exhibition. During his lecture, Professor Czesław Dźwigaj highlighted the bond between Bolesławiec – the city of ceramics – and the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow, particularly its ceramic sculpture studio.

The works on display are varied and rich in their texture and form. There are sculptures, tiles and vessel forms, as well as ceramic books in the form of cubes containing short texts and graphics. The work by Joanna Komarzyniec attracts attention. This fantastic animal-bird, with its strikingly colored glaze, expresses the artist’s fascination with Norse, Greek and Slavic mythology.

In the introduction to the catalogue, Czesław Dźwigaj stressed several times that ceramic sculptures are just as fragile as an artist’s sensitivity. He asked for approval, love and interest in artists, their world and their work. He also thanked all the people and institutions that, by organizing plein-air workshops and exhibitions, make it possible for artists to fulfill their dreams.

The exhibition can be viewed until May 3.
