A police officer is not only a police officer during working hours. This was demonstrated by the Chief of the Police Station in Nowogrodziec, who arrested a 22-year-old man suspected of thefts and burglaries committed in the Lubań Commune and city. The arrested man has already been questioned and charged with a total of 11 offenses. By decision of the prosecutor, the 22-year-old was placed under police supervision and banned from leaving the country. The Criminal Code provides for a penalty of up to 10 years in prison for burglary.
The Chief of the Police Station in Nowogrodziec, while off duty, arrested in Lubań County a man suspected of various crimes. Police officers from neighboring counties cooperate with one another on an ongoing basis, so the chief, who serves in Bolesławiec County, had information about the criminal being sought by police officers from Lubań County.
On Tuesday, March 15, the duty officer at the Lubań police headquarters dispatched a police patrol to a parish located in Lubań Commune, where a break-in had reportedly occurred. The officers determined that the entrance door leading to the sacristy had been damaged. The perpetrator probably entered the church through it, where he searched the interior of the place of worship. The subsequent incidents involved burglaries at a shop and a residential building located within the church grounds. In this case, the perpetrator broke the windows and then entered the rooms in order to steal property left inside. The officers secured evidence of the crime at the scene and began searching for the person suspected of the burglaries.
Criminal investigators linked the incidents that occurred from February to March in the city and commune, assuming that the same perpetrator was probably involved in each of them. Their suspicions proved correct. The man suspected in the case was arrested in Lubań Commune by the Chief of the Police Station in Nowogrodziec, who was already off duty.
While evidence was being gathered, it emerged that the arrested man had previously committed similar offenses, thefts and burglaries. He was also charged with property damage. On Friday, March 18, the 22-year-old was questioned and charged with a total of 11 offenses. By decision of the prosecutor, he was placed under police supervision and banned from leaving the country. He faces up to 10 years in prison for the crimes committed.
