On Wednesday, 7 April, a delegation from Bautzen visited Bolesławiec. Officials and choreographers from the partner county met, among others, with Dariusz Kwaśniewski, a member of the Bolesławiec County Board, and Marek Łętowski, head of the Stanisław Wyspiański Youth Cultural Centre.

The guests had the opportunity to watch a national dance performance by students of Anna Alicja Serkies, an MDK teacher. They also visited the ceramics studio. “I was thinking about the future of this institution and concluded that we should expand cooperation with Germany. Dariusz Kwaśniewski suggested that we could do something together with the partner county of Bautzen. It turned out that our German partners were interested in joint projects,” Marek Łętowski explains.

“For years, our cooperation with Rhein-Sieg County has worked really well. Cooperation with Bautzen, so far, has been more on paper,” Dariusz Kwaśniewski admits. “We decided to change that. Together with MDK director Marek Łętowski, we went to Bautzen and established an action plan.”

As part of its cooperation with Bautzen, the Bolesławiec County Office wants to establish a Polish-German cultural centre for children and young people. “We are focusing on dance,” says the head of MDK. “The Song and Dance Ensemble is our gem. That is why we are preparing the project ‘Wir – tradycją nakręceni’, in which children and young people from Bolesławiec, Złotoryja, Bautzen and Zwickau will participate. We want young dancers from Poland to have the opportunity to learn about other cultures.”

With the County’s assistance, MDK wants to obtain EU funding to carry out the project. “The chances of obtaining funding are high. We will do everything to make it happen,” Dariusz Kwaśniewski assures. “Besides, I think that the excellent teachers at MDK will certainly come up with several more great projects,” he adds.
