As of 31 January 2022, it is possible to keep a vehicle’s existing registration number and temporarily withdraw a passenger car from traffic. The possibility of keeping, at the owner’s request, the existing registration number of an acquired vehicle, as well as extending the catalogue of vehicles that may be temporarily withdrawn from traffic to include passenger cars, was introduced by the Act of 14 August 2020 amending the Road Traffic Act and certain other acts (https://dziennikustaw.gov.pl/DU/2020/1517).
The deadline for implementing the technical solutions enabling these facilities for drivers and vehicle owners was set out in announcements by the minister responsible for digitalisation, published in the Journal of Laws (https://www.dziennikustaw.gov.pl/DU/2021/1522; https://www.dziennikustaw.gov.pl/D2021000152101.pdf).
Further changes are coming
Further changes will take place on 1 May 2022, including a new vehicle registration certificate and temporary permit. In September, the obligation to issue a vehicle card and inspection sticker will be abolished. On 4 September, the obligation to submit, when registering a vehicle, a certificate confirming the loss of the registration certificate of a vehicle registered in the country will also be abolished.
