During a routine roadside inspection near the A4 motorway, officers of the Customs and Tax Service from Zgorzelec stopped a shipment containing 1,197 kg of illegal cut tobacco. “The van driver was transporting tobacco from Germany to Poland. During the inspection, the driver stated that he had no documents related to the transport and did not know the sender or recipient of the excise goods,” reports Agnieszka Rzeźnicka-Gniadek, spokesperson for the Lower Silesian KAS.
She adds: “The transport had not been reported as a shipment of goods subject to monitoring in the SENT system (Electronic Transport Supervision System).”
The driver was questioned as a suspect in smuggling and fined PLN 7,500.
KAS:
We remind you that if you send, receive or transport “sensitive goods” such as fuel, cut tobacco or alcohol, you are required to report the shipment to the electronic SENT register. As a carrier, you are also required to equip the transport with a device transmitting geolocation data.
