On Saturday, 20 March, the reporting and electoral convention of Civic Platform in Bolesławiec County was held. The politicians summed up the outgoing term and unanimously granted a vote of approval to the outgoing council and the party board. New authorities were also elected. Karol Stasik was again appointed Karol Stasikhead of the county Civic Platform board. “I admit that I am pleasantly surprised. I am a demanding person. I thought that, despite Civic Platform’s numerous successes, my candidacy would be assessed negatively. I was wrong. A decisive majority of the delegates voted for me,” Stasik says.
The deputy heads of Civic Platform in the county are Cezary Przybylski, the Bolesławiec County head, and Dariusz Kwaśniewski, a member of the Bolesławiec County Board. Moreover, Kwaśniewski was selected as the candidate for mayor of Bolesławiec.
“Over the past few years, we have managed to achieve a lot,” Karol Stasik says. “Four years ago, we had 64 members and 4 councillors; now more than 100 people belong to Civic Platform, and we have 14 councillors. We have taken several steps forward.”
As the chairman of the Civic Platform board emphasizes, at the beginning of the previous term there were only two party branches operating in our county: in Bolesławiec and Osiecznica. “Currently, Civic Platform branches operate in every municipality. Each of them has its representatives on the council,” Karol Stasik notes.
“We have energized the activities of the city branch, and now we intend to do the same in the rural branches,” says the head of Civic Platform in the county. “Each municipal branch should deal with the problems affecting its municipality.”
Plans for the coming months? “We intend to achieve the best possible election result. We will seek the mayoralty of Bolesławiec, and we also want to put forward a strong candidate for the Lower Silesian regional assembly,” Karol Stasik lists. Civic Platform is already thinking about next year’s Sejm elections. “For a city like Bolesławiec, having its own parliamentarian is very important. We hope that this time our candidate will not fall short by 200 votes, as happened in 2007,” the Civic Platform chairman adds.
