The incident occurred on January 6. Volunteer firefighters from Nowogrodziec:

[...] at around 5 a.m., we were dispatched to our first intervention of the year. The reason for the call was a fire in a building—a vacant property in Gierałtów.

And they continue:

We set out with three crews, forming a firefighting platoon. We were the first to begin operations at the scene.

The attic and ceiling of the building were engulfed in flames. The fire service was tasked with:

  • using three water streams in an offensive attack,
  • checking the building for any potentially injured people,
  • illuminating the scene,
  • and, after the situation had been brought under control, dismantling the burned elements with demolition equipment (in order to extinguish the remaining embers).

The firefighters add:

The adjacent garage space was saved.

Uniformed personnel from OSP KSRG Nowogrodziec, OSP KSRG Czerna, OSP Zebrzydowa, OSP Gierałtów, OSP Wykroty, JRG Bolesławiec, as well as the police, took part in the operation. The latter is determining the cause of the incident.
