A reader has just written to us via Facebook:

I would like to raise the issue of parking meters. I am not from Bolesławiec, I do not park there all the time, so I do not have to remember the rules. Not to mention visitors from far away.

And he noted:

I mean parking at the weekend. For example, this Saturday I parked on Mickiewicza Street, found a parking meter somewhere there and bought a ticket. Then a gentleman walking past told me that it was Saturday and I did not need to buy a ticket.

He also commented:

How was I supposed to know? Of course, it is written on the sign, but the sign is a little way behind it, and I did not even notice it. What if I were a foreigner who could not read Polish?

(Although our compatriots sometimes face exactly these kinds of problems in other countries…)

And he suggested a solution: “In my opinion, when there is no parking charge, parking meters should not work. I am not asking for them to be unplugged, but they should be programmed not to accept money or print tickets.”

What do you think? Should additional information signs be put up? Is what is already there sufficient? We invite you to join the discussion.
