Positive temperatures persisted throughout December and part of January. As a result, the services responsible for winter road maintenance have substantial reserves of salt-and-sand mixtures. The Powiat Road Authority alone, which has six gritters, still has 600 tonnes of mixture in reserve.
Constant snowfall and subzero temperatures mean that the roads must be cleared continuously. So far, nearly all roads in the town and its surrounding area, although slippery, remain passable.
