The office opened on Friday, 12 March. Those attending the ceremony included, among others, county governor Cezary Przybylski, chairman of the County Council Karol Stasik, MEP assistant Wojciech Kasprzyk, mayor of Nowogrodziec Robert Relich, head of Warta Bolesławiecka commune Mirosław Haniszewski and head of Osiecznica commune Waldemar Nalazek.
“Mr Piotr Borys is a well-known figure in the Bolesławiec region. He was born in our city. I hope that the cooperation the MP establishes with the residents of our county will benefit both sides,” Karol Stasik said during the briefing. “We have always maintained good contact with the MP. Now that contact will be even easier,” Cezary Przybylski added.
This is the MEP’s fifth office in Lower Silesia. “We would like this office to be active. It is intended to reflect the policies of Civic Platform and local government. The voice of Lower Silesia’s local-government officials should be heard more clearly in Brussels,” emphasized Piotr Borys.
The office plans to establish cooperation with non-governmental organizations and entrepreneurs. What is more, residents of Bolesławiec County will be able to learn here how to obtain funding from Brussels. “There are 100 billion euros on the EU funding table. Poland obtains a fraction of a per mille of these funds,” Borys noted. “We should place greater emphasis on securing funding. Today, when Jerzy Buzek is President of the European Parliament and Janusz Lewandowski is the EU commissioner for the budget, Poles are playing an increasingly important role in Europe. We should tell ourselves: we have no complexes, we are Europeans.”
Legal advice will be available at Piotr Borys’s Bolesławiec office once a quarter. The MEP has also organized a competition for young residents of Lower Silesia. The prizes are three-month internships at the MEP’s office in Brussels.
In addition, the Civic Platform politician wants to promote Bolesławiec ceramics in Europe. “I hope we will manage to prepare a beautiful ceramics exhibition and show that Bolesławiec is a unique city on the map of Europe,” the MP emphasized.
The office will be open every Tuesday and Thursday from 3:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Wojciech Kasprzyk will hold office hours. “We will do our best to ensure that the MP visits Bolesławiec as often as possible,” the MEP’s assistant assures.
