– On Wednesday, a joint patrol consisting of Border Guard and Railway Protection Guard officers detained a group of foreigners in a forest in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship, reports Major of the Border Guard Joanna Konieczniak, press spokesperson for the Nadodrzański Border Guard Unit. – Their appearance indicated that they might have been staying in the forest for several days.
When they saw the uniformed officers, some of the foreigners attempted to escape and hide in nearby bushes. Zgorzelec police officers were informed of the matter; they immediately arrived at the scene and joined the search for the foreigners.

As a result, 14 foreigners from Middle Eastern countries were detained. The foreigners were taken to a Border Guard facility. After being examined by a doctor, it turned out that they were in good health and did not require hospitalization.
The foreigners did not have documents with them that would make it possible to establish their identity and citizenship unequivocally. Ten of them stated that they were citizens of Iraq, and four of Iran. During interviews conducted with the assistance of an interpreter, officers established that the oldest of those detained was 31 and the youngest was 19. All of them stated that they wanted to reach Germany.

Further proceedings involving an interpreter are currently underway. Since none of the detained foreigners wished to apply for international protection in Poland, Border Guard officers initiated administrative proceedings under which the foreigners will be required to leave Poland.
