– A man called a resident of Lwówek County in mid-November this year, claiming to be a consultant for an investment platform and offering help with investing in bitcoins, reports Sergeant Olga Łukaszewicz, press officer of the District Police Headquarters in Lwówek Śląski.

She adds:

The man was told that he needed to install the AnyDesk application in order to transfer the money he had already earned.

The quasi-broker manipulated his conversation partner so effectively that the victim unquestioningly confirmed every message displayed on the screen. The result? The fraudster obtained the victim’s bank account login and password. The victim lost more than PLN 60,000 through loans taken out against his bank account.

Police officers:

We appeal for common sense and compliance with online safety rules. Initial contact with the victim usually takes place by email, telephone or text messenger. Fraudsters persuade victims to install remote desktop access software and log in to their bank account.

And they warn:

If a “consultant” suggests that we install such software, we can be certain that it is a scam!
