For those who do not like wearing a watch and instinctively glance at the four-faced clock on the tower of the Bolesławiec town hall, we have good news: the clock is working again. The mechanism was repaired by Krzysztof Kurek from Puszczykowo, one of three tower-clock specialists in Poland, who currently also looks after, among other things, Poznań’s famous billy goats.
What is more, this is not the first time Mr Kurek has worked on our town hall clock. He already repaired it nearly 20 years ago.
At the beginning of November this year, we reported that the hands of the Bolesławiec clock had disappeared. At the time, Agnieszka Gergont, spokesperson for the Bolesławiec City Office, Agnieszka Gergont explained:
Work on repairing the historic clock is still under way. The clock was made in 1885 at the renowned C. Weiss clock factory in Głogów. Many components of the clock mechanism are already heavily worn. They have been dismantled and are undergoing repair and conservation work. The hands were removed to coordinate them with the counterweight system.
The mechanism broke down because the bearings had worn out. They have been replaced, and the clock itself should now work properly. (It will need to be oiled once a month).
