Cryolipolysis is considered one of the most effective methods of reducing fat tissue in a selected area of the body and may be an alternative to liposuction. It involves cooling fat cells to a sufficiently low temperature for a specified period, which leads to their damage (cold initiates the process of apoptosis, that is, the death of a fat cell)—selectively, without affecting surrounding tissues.
Fat cells from the treated area are then gradually eliminated by the body—their contents are absorbed by the venous and lymphatic vessels and removed from the body through natural metabolic processes, while the emptied membranes are “eaten” by scavenger cells, known as macrophages.
