On Saturday, November 6, players and fans in Osiecznica experienced terrifying moments. During the IV-league match between Leśnik Osiecznica and Chrobry II Głogów, Leśnik forward Daniel Ziółkowski suffered a serious injury.

In the 45th minute, with the Głogów team leading 5–0, Daniel took a shot at the opponents’ goal and, in a challenge with an opposing player, probably injured his ankle. The injury looked so severe that the players initially thought it was an open fracture.

An ambulance was called to the stadium in Osiecznica. According to one eyewitness, the dispatcher conducted a “COVID interview” by telephone before sending the ambulance. During that time, the fouled player was writhing in pain. Eventually, after 30 minutes, the ambulance arrived and took the footballer to hospital.

The player will probably undergo surgery later today.

Following these dramatic events, Leśnik’s coach and management decided that the players from Osiecznica would not continue the match. The second half was not played.

On Sunday evening, the player posted on his Facebook profile that he had already undergone surgery. He thanked everyone for their support. He also expressed his gratitude to the medical staff for their professional assistance.

We wish Daniel a speedy recovery and, of course, a return to the pitch.
