We reported back in June that the Water and Sports Centre was in for a revolution. During the September session of the Bolesławiec City Council, Piotr Roman presented councillors with the “preliminary concept prepared by architects” for the redevelopment of the OWS.

What will change?

  • Some of the facilities, including the pool area, will be demolished. New facilities will be built.
  • The new buildings will be set back from the ones to be demolished, creating more parking spaces.
  • The pool area will include:
    • a small water playground for children;
    • a pool, partly covered, possibly with brine and slightly heated water;
    • a pool for children and teenagers with a large number of play features;
    • a pool featuring, among other things, a lazy river;
    • a multifunctional slide.
  • There will also be sports courts and a large beach, allowing visitors to sunbathe in summer.
  • The tennis courts will be upgraded.

During Wednesday’s council meeting, someone alleged that the plans lacked a proper swimming pool suitable for holding competitions. The mayor replied:

My experience is that a typical swimming pool simply is not profitable. I often visit pools in various places, and such pools meet demand to the smallest extent. In Bolesławiec there is Orka, where competitions can be held.

He added:

Building a pool [pływackiego]in this location would mean giving up recreational space. And this is meant to be a place for family recreation.

He also noted:

For people looking for strong sensations, the slides will certainly be an incredible bonus.

What do you think? We invite you to join the discussion. We will certainly return to this topic.
