At the European Picnic, Polish pierogi and stuffed cabbage, as well as roast pig—a delicacy from the Liberec area—were served, and good music by Polish and Czech bands was played. As part of the European Picnic project, the event was held as part of the 2021 Bolesławiec City Days celebrations. During this outdoor culinary and musical event, visitors could eat traditional Polish and Czech dishes and listen to concerts.
Performers on the Polish side of the stage included: the “Bolesławiec” Municipal Brass Band, a 26-member orchestra that has participated in several innovative musical projects: RAPocztówka (the project produced two hip-hop music videos featuring the brass band and acclaimed Polish rappers RAHIM and KLESZCZ, as well as a performance at the Rymoliryktando concert in Jelenia Góra). The conductor of the “Bolesławiec” Municipal Brass Band is Jan Chojnacki and the band Happy Hours, which plays rock, pop, funk and disco covers.
Two bands from Liberec performed on stage: Rockabilly Prehmat and Dixieland Old Stars. The Liberec rockabilly band Prehmat Liberec has been performing since 2012, with Martin Bathory Wildner (double bass), Martin Brejky Pospíchal (drums), Dan Sova (vocals and guitar) and Láďa Houba Třmínek (vocals and guitar). The band performs in clubs, at festivals and at other musical events in the Czech Republic. Dixieland Old Stars from Liberec was formed in 1958 and is one of the oldest Dixieland bands in the Czech Republic, if not one of the oldest on the world music scene. The band plays jazz pieces, continuing to pay tribute to musicians from New Orleans.
The evening’s star was LIMBOSKI, a Polish musician associated with Kraków, primarily a singer and guitarist and a songwriter, nominated twice for the Fryderyk Awards (for the albums “Tribute to Georgie Buck” and “Poliamoria”). He is a member of the groups Limbo and Naked Mind. In some performances, he uses the overtone singing techniques kargyraa and sygit.
“The European Picnic Project – Polish-Czech Culinary Meetings is co-financed by the European Union under the European Regional Development Fund and by state budget funds through the Nysa Euroregion.”
