On Friday, September 10, police officers received a report about squealing coming from inside a garbage container in Szprotawa. “Officers from the local police station, junior aspirant Andrzej Szykuła and aspirant Jacek Kowczyk, began checking all the bags in the bin. In a paper bag, they found puppies that had been tightly wrapped in plastic and placed in a shopping bag,” reports senior sergeant Arkadiusz Szlachetko, press officer of the District Police Headquarters in Żagań. “Some of the animals showed no signs of life. The officers decided to perform cardiac massage, which after several minutes led to the restoration of their vital functions.
The decisive and rapid action resulted in three of the six puppies being rescued. (As established, they were four days old.) The survivors were handed over to the Polish Animal Aid Organization and will be eligible for adoption in eight weeks.
