The pilot program at the Mental Health Centers (CZP), which began operating a year later, was incorporated into the Mental Health Protection Act under the second edition of the National Mental Health Protection Program for 2017–2022.
What does the program involve?
It involves shifting the focus of psychiatric care from closed psychiatric wards to the local community. CZPs are required to provide assistance to everyone in need from their region. Comprehensive psychiatric care is to be provided in inpatient, day-care, outpatient and community-based treatment settings.
The centers serve between 50,000 and 200,000 residents, such as the population of a county or a district of a large city. This approach to providing psychiatric care is intended to counteract the stigmatization of people experiencing a mental health crisis and help patients obtain comprehensive support, for example close to their home, school or workplace. The overarching goal is to restore a person experiencing a mental health crisis, or recovering from one, to normal functioning within the community.
Wojewódzki Szpital dla Nerwowo i Psychicznie Chorych w Bolesławcu participates in the pilot program for mental health centers as part of the National Mental Health Protection Program. The Mental Health Center provides psychiatric care for the adult populations of Bolesławiec and Lwówek counties.
