It looks as though a new national holiday will soon be established. 27 December, that is, immediately after Christmas, is to be observed as a holiday commemorating the date of the outbreak of the Greater Poland Uprising – 27 December 1918.

President of the Republic of Poland Andrzej Duda announced the initiative to create a new holiday. This happened at a meeting with local government officials from Greater Poland.

As we read on the money.pl website:

– I would never have suspected that the people of Greater Poland would come to the president demanding a day off work – President Andrzej Duda said jokingly during a ceremonial meeting with representatives of the region who are seeking the establishment of a new national holiday. He immediately added: – But it is the sacred right of the people of Greater Poland to demand the commemoration of the great armed struggle that was the Greater Poland Uprising.

The establishment of a new national holiday does not mean that it will immediately become a day off work. The initiators of the new holiday assume that it would be a working day.
