During the night of August 21, a fire broke out in a multi-family building in Ruszów (Lower Silesian Voivodeship). The roof, attic and residential units were damaged. The firefighting operation lasted several hours.
The building was destroyed, and the families living there had to be evacuated immediately. Most of the residents’ belongings were damaged during the intervention by the Fire Service.
One person died in the fire, and three families were left homeless.

Let us recall. The incident occurred on August 21. As reported by the firefighters from OSP Ruszów:
At 2:38 a.m., the Ruszów firefighters were alerted to a fire in an apartment in a building on Borowska Street in Ruszów. Upon arrival, they found a fully developed fire in an apartment on the upper floor and in part of the attic—the flames had already spread outside and covered approximately one-third of the roof.
The fire was noticed by one of Ruszów’s residents, who alerted the services and woke the other residents. Unfortunately, that was not the end. The firefighters:
The firefighters were informed that one resident was missing and was probably in the burning apartment. The fire inside was very advanced, and it was only possible to thoroughly search the room after the fire had been extinguished. Unfortunately, the information was confirmed, and beneath a pile of roof tiles and remains of the burned ceiling, the firefighters found charred remains.
The police and prosecutor’s office are determining the causes of the tragedy. Firefighters from Ruszów, Jagodzin, Węgliniec and Zgorzelec took part in the operation, along with the police, an emergency medical team and the power emergency service.
