Ewa Lijewska-Małachowska, secretary of Powiat Karkonoski, has become an honorary member of the Bolesławiec Ceramic Brotherhood. The nomination was announced by Jarosław Rutyna, elder of the Bolesławiec Ceramic Brotherhood, during the official opening of the ceramic festival on 20 August 2021.

Under its regulations, the Brotherhood awards honorary membership to individuals or institutions for services to the Brotherhood.

“After a unanimous vote, we awarded the title to Ms Ewa Lijewska-Małachowska for the idea behind and coordination of the Brotherhood’s creation,” says Jarosław Rutyna. “We hope that this group will grow in the near future,” the Brotherhood’s elder adds.

The former head of BOK–MCC was the first person to notice that the city of ceramics did not sufficiently highlight the role of ceramic artists. In 2009, she undertook to consolidate this community. She had a good idea, and it was appreciated. The director of the Bolesławiec Cultural Centre persuaded ceramic artists to join the Brotherhood and proposed having kontusz garments made. She also proposed that each ceramic workshop make a separate decorative chain, so that the wealth of patterns for which they are known—and by which the individual workshops distinguish themselves from one another—could be presented. Her work was crowned by the Brotherhood’s uninterrupted twelve-year activity.
