The RMF.FM service reports:
The United States is considering imposing a range of sanctions on Warsaw for adopting the amendment to the media law. Poland may not receive an invitation to the global democracy summit organized by President Joe Biden. The Americans are also considering blocking the sale of Abrams tanks. The nuclear option would be the imposition of personal sanctions on Polish politicians, including the president, prime minister and leader of Law and Justice.
Irritation and disappointment are reportedly growing in the USA, influenced by developments concerning the law known as Lex TVN and the amendment to the Code of Administrative Procedure, which in turn is related to reprivatization.
Czy potencjalne sankcje USA na Polskę są zasadne?
According to unofficial information reported by RMF.FM, the USA is considering three sanction scenarios:
- Poland may not receive an invitation to the summit of democratic countries, which will be organized by US President Joe Biden.
- The USA may block the sale of Abrams tanks to Poland. Poland wants to purchase 250 Abrams tanks for PLN 23 billion.
- Personal sanctions may be imposed on President of the Republic of Poland Andrzej Duda, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki and PiS leader Jarosław Kaczyński. They would consist of banning these individuals from entering the United States.
Additionally, on August 12, Discovery, the company that owns TVN, announced that it would take legal action against Poland, claiming that the bilateral investment treaty between Poland and the USA had been violated.
