This news will please those who live near the Bolesławiec wastewater treatment plant the most. For years, the Bolesławiec Water and Sewerage Company has been investing in the facility so that the treatment plant itself is as little of a nuisance to residents as possible.

What has been done to prevent the smells from becoming a nuisance?

  • New trees were planted around the treatment plant.
  • New misting systems were installed.
  • The focus was placed on the so-called green energy. (This means achieving the facility’s energy self-sufficiency).

But that is not the end of it. The latest success of the municipal company is the fact that the treatment plant officially no longer produces waste—a fact confirmed by a certificate from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. The sludge produced at the treatment plant has become a fully-fledged product called “Agroorganika Bolesławiec,” meaning soil that can successfully be used, for example, in land reclamation or agriculture. (All this became possible because lime is no longer used for disinfection; PWiK now uses bacteria).

If everything goes according to plan, the operation of the treatment plant is expected to stop being an olfactory nuisance to residents later this year. What do you think? We invite you to join the discussion.
