They wrote about the incident on their Facebook page, the volunteer firefighters from Brochocin (Złotoryja County). The post concerned an accident on the A4. The firefighters wrote:
For some time now, creating an emergency corridor has been MANDATORY for drivers! However, some drivers need a great deal of time to learn how to behave properly, making it possible for emergency services to reach the scene. The Lower Silesian section of the A4 is specific because for the most part it has no emergency lane. Nevertheless, it is possible to behave properly in a situation when help needs to reach people injured in incidents on time!
And they appealed:
Professional drivers! Truck drivers, your place is in the right lane, right next to the edge of the road! We appeal once again! You can see that traffic is backing up—move to the right! Passenger cars, move left, next to the barriers! Simple... We have a light technical rescue vehicle... medium-sized vehicles are driving behind us and need space, and every second counts when saving lives!
Firefighters about the incident on the A4
Let us recall. We have written many times about the campaign Emergency Corridor – Use Your Common Sense, initiated, among others, by firefighters from Czerna, in our pages. The initiative was also often covered by the largest nationwide media outlets.
The impetus for the firefighters from Czerna (Nowogrodziec municipality) to act was an incident in 2016, when none of the drivers even tried to create an emergency corridor and allow the uniformed officers to reach the accident scene. They had to get out of their vehicles and persuade the drivers to move aside.
Thanks to the efforts of, among others, the firefighters from Czerna, creating an emergency corridor has been mandatory since December 2019.
