On Tuesday, at 6:00 p.m., a demonstration in defense of free media began in Bolesławiec’s market square. Commentators say the draft amendment to the media law, authored by Law and Justice, targets TVN’s independence and restricts media freedoms. More than 120 people took part in the demonstration in Bolesławiec.

Demonstrations in defense of free media were announced outside the seat of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland and in nearly 80 cities across Poland. As we read on tvn24.pl:

On Tuesday, nearly a dozen organizations and associations, including the Committee for the Defence of Democracy, Akcja Demokracja, Grand Press Found, the All-Poland Women’s Strike and legal circles, are organizing demonstrations in defense of TVN and media independence in nearly 80 Polish cities. They are scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. The largest demonstration is expected outside the Sejm, where representatives of the main opposition forces are also expected to take part. Earlier, at 1 p.m., an appeal concerning TVN will be submitted in the Sejm.
“This is about our common cause,” said KOD head Jakub Karyś about the protests. “It is about your cause and ours, because free media mean free people, and free people mean a free Poland—and that is why we are taking to the streets,” he added.
