Police:

Reminder! Riding a motorcycle while intoxicated is punishable by up to two years in prison and a court-imposed ban on driving motor vehicles. A fine of up to PLN 5,000 and a court-imposed ban on driving motor vehicles are penalties for the offence of driving without a licence.

Arrest, restriction of liberty or a fine, as well as the loss of driving privileges, may be imposed for causing a road collision while intoxicated.

They add:

For many years, motorcycles have been a very popular means of transport. Riding this two-wheeler is often a passion and a great pleasure. However, it should be remembered that users belong to the group of vulnerable road users and, in the event of a road incident, suffer the most serious injuries. The only protection for a motorcyclist’s body during a fall or collision with another vehicle or an obstacle is specialised clothing, such as a motorcycle jacket and trousers, proper footwear, gloves and a helmet. Visibility on the road also has a significant impact on riders’ safety. It can be improved primarily through working, clean lights and by wearing reflective motorcycle braces or a vest.

Under no circumstances should we get behind the wheel of any vehicle after consuming alcohol. An intoxicated driver poses a threat not only to themselves but also to other road users.

And they appeal:

Motorcyclist!

  • Adjust your speed to the traffic conditions.
  • Signal your intention to perform a manoeuvre well in advance and clearly.
  • Watch the road and the behaviour of its users, and check your mirrors.
  • Remember that you are a vulnerable road user.
  • If you have been drinking alcohol, do not ride.
