Police officers from the Lubin traffic police received a report from the duty officer that 421 litres of fuel worth over PLN 2,000 had been stolen at one of the petrol stations. – While patrolling the streets, the officers paid attention to petrol stations in the city and on roads leading out of Lubin – reports asp. szt. Sylwia Serafin, press officer of the District Police Headquarters in Lubin.
And she adds:
At one point, they noticed at one of the stations a Volkswagen with licence plates from Złotoryja, which had been used in an earlier fuel theft. A man was standing at the pump and filling diesel fuel into a plastic container with a specially cut opening.
A 28-year-old resident of Lubin County was detained. His 23-year-old accomplice, who was sitting in the back of the vehicle beside the container, also fell into the hands of the uniformed officers. (The younger suspect is also a resident of Lubin County).
As it turned out, the 28-year-old had already managed to pour more than 254 litres of diesel fuel into the container. The police prevented him from stealing more.
But that was not the end of it. The Volkswagen thieves’ licence plates were assigned to a Ford. In addition, German plates were found in the car in which the suspects were travelling.
What is more, it came to light that the detainees had committed at least several fuel thefts at various stations located in Lubin and the surrounding counties.
The 28- and 23-year-olds now face a sentence of between three months and as many as five years in prison. The investigation is ongoing, and the uniformed officers do not rule out further arrests.
