Music and making music, like no other activities, influence the development of healthy social behavior, the development of intelligence, brain performance and the overall development of a person.

Music makes you smarter. Active music-making increases mathematical and linguistic abilities. Research has shown that after two years of learning to play keyboard instruments, the ability to think abstractly improves significantly.

The concept of Yamaha schools was created in Japan, with the precision characteristic of that nation and its pursuit of improving human skills and competencies. Yamaha Music Education has specialized in early-childhood education since 1954. The teaching programs are the result of many years of scientific research into the development of the human brain, as well as educators’ experience. Yamaha programs enable children as young as four months to develop their hearing and gain basic musical experiences, thereby activating their potential and talent.

A child can be enrolled in Yamaha Music School from as early as four months of age. The school follows the principle: let’s enjoy music at every age. The following programs are offered.

Babies in the Land of Sounds

A program for children from four months of age. In this program, music serves as a language. It enables communication between parent and child, and between child and teacher. Parents are often pleasantly surprised as they observe the relationships being built between parent and child and between child and teacher. The classes provide children with a sense of security through the lessons’ consistent rhythm. The use of the Dennison method is very important during the classes, as it enables the balanced development of both hemispheres of the brain. When the “free discovery” method is used with classical music, parents observe their child’s behavior as the child responds to the music and makes contact with other children. These classes give parents the opportunity to spend special time with their child.

Toddlers and Music

A program for children from 18 months to four years of age. It includes three thematic textbooks: “Summer,” “Autumn” and “Winter.” Each new song learned during the classes is an opportunity to discover the world of everyday activities and look at it from a child’s perspective. Among other things, the children learn about activities performed in the kitchen, at preschool and in the street. Children easily absorb the musical material, consisting of 43 songs and rhymes. Each song has accompanying gestures to help children remember and understand it more easily. Orff instruments—percussion instruments with uncomplicated playing techniques—are used in this program. Music also inspires painting and drawing. Participation in the program makes music part of children’s everyday lives and a natural environment for them. Additional effects of the classes include faster speech development, an expanded vocabulary and more confident interaction with peers.

Little Sound People

Elementary music education for children from four years of age. At the age of four to five, children’s hearing develops at a remarkably rapid pace. This makes it possible to use auditory games, introduce solfège singing exercises—learning to read music through the voice—rhythm exercises, and listen to musical stories supported by program music. During the classes, children also become familiar with musical notation and terminology. This program teaches conscious listening, singing and playing keyboard instruments.

The Wonderful World of Music

The program is intended for children from four years of age. At this age, children imitate the adult world in their play. The program takes this natural tendency into account and recognizes it as an excellent opportunity to teach through play. In this way, music becomes an essential and natural means through which children experience the world. Combining music with movement helps young children better coordinate the movements of individual parts of their bodies and teaches them new motor skills. Once a week, children have the opportunity to spend time in “The Wonderful World of Music.” They sing, listen and make music. The fundamental aims are to develop musical hearing, train the voice and develop a sense of rhythm. All this can be achieved by singing children’s songs, using solmization—learning to read music through the voice—and playing various instruments. As they prepare for classes with musical instruments, children first learn to recognize them and then make music together as an ensemble.

If you would like to give your child something special—a world full of music and a better start for the future—you can enroll them in Yamaha Music School. We invite you.
