Volunteers from Wrocław’s Ekostraż described the story of Rita the Labrador. They began the post very tellingly:

A Labrador with a basketball-sized tumor and her owners’ words: “Good morning, we wanted to put the dog to sleep.”

And added:

The female Labrador is already with us. We are still in shock – this is the largest tumor we have seen in our 11-year history. The dog has difficulty not only walking, but even lying down. Apart from that, she is a wonderful girl, still full of the will to live.

How is this possible? How can someone let something like this grow for several years? And no – don’t write to us that perhaps someone could not afford treatment. The dog had several hundred fleas on her (there is a video in the comments), and everyone knows how much flea treatment costs. It was simply complete callousness, irresponsibility, and abuse through failure to provide treatment and seek help.

A veterinarian from Bolesławiec refused to perform euthanasia

The story is connected with the City of Ceramics. Ekostraż wrote:

Many thanks to the doctor from OptimaVet Gabinet Weterynaryjny Bolesławiec and the watchful patient Monika, who sought help for the dog. The doctor refused euthanasia on request. Tumors of this kind can, in most cases, be successfully operated on, giving the dog relief and several years of life.

The volunteers appeal:

Having a dog in Poland is a right, not an obligation. Can’t afford one? Don’t get one. Planning to put the dog in a kennel once it stops being a sweet puppy? Don’t get one. Let no dog end up like Rita: in a yard, covered in fleas and with a basketball-sized tumor.

And they announce that they will file a report with the prosecutor’s office.
