We received the following message from a reader via Facebook:

Important, I wrote to you some time ago about the yard that has been left to its own devices—disgusting and run-down, a place where poor children merely wander around aimlessly because it is a wasteland. There are rumors that they want to build a parking lot here—horrors!

The woman from Bolesławiec added:

We do not want a parking lot; we want a playground for the children who live practically in every entrance of the building. You can see children on nearly every balcony who would play on a patch of sand, a swing, or a carousel. Not much is needed... Benches to sit on... A fence and that’s it.

And she emphasized:

They will write: There is a playground at the kindergarten. It is neither better nor safer there... Besides, here the little ones are close to home and have the right to play in “their” yard. Here, all that remains is drawing with chalk on the concrete! Now perhaps the city will invest in this area once it has already earned money from those paid parking spaces.

Agnieszka Gergont, spokesperson for Bolesławiec City Hall, explains:

A parking lot is not planned for this area. In the past, there was an old “sports field” here. Because of young people behaving loudly until late at night, it was removed at the residents’ request.

She adds:

A playground can be located here after consultations with residents of the nearby buildings. Once the residents approve designating this area for a playground, the project may be included in next year’s budget.
